# Adding & Editing Items

> How to add new items to the catalog and edit existing ones.

# Adding & Editing Items

## Adding a New Item

Click the **"Add Item"** button on the catalog page. The process has two steps:

### Step 1: Choose Starting Point

You can either:

* **Browse** existing items to use as a template
* **Start from scratch** with a blank form

If you browse and select an existing item, the form pre-fills with that item's details (name, category, specs, etc.). You then modify what's different.

### Step 2: Fill in Details

The form has these sections:

#### Identity

* **Name** — The item name (e.g., "15mm Black Hard Button Plane")
* **Material Type** — Accessories, Lining, or Others
* **Folder** — Which primary folder (auto-fills based on material type)

#### Classification

* **Category** — Main category (e.g., Buttons, Zippers, Rivets)
* **Subcategory** — Sub-group (e.g., Hard Buttons, 4-Part Buttons)
* **Variant** — Colour or size variant (e.g., "Gun Metal", "Small (7"-12")")

  Category and subcategory suggestions appear as you type, based on existing items in the catalog.

#### Specifications

Different fields appear based on the category and subcategory you select:

| Category > Subcategory   | Fields                                                              |
| ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Buttons > Hard Buttons   | L Size, Size (mm), Colour, Style                                    |
| Buttons > 4-Part Buttons | Model, Shape, Colour                                                |
| Buttons > Branded        | Brand, Type, Model, Colour                                          |
| Buttons > Parts & Covers | L Size, Size (mm), Colour                                           |
| Zippers (any)            | Item Type, Zip Number, Size, Tape Colour, Teeth Colour, Slider Type |
| Rivets (any)             | Type, Size, Shape, Colour, Part, Grade                              |
| Buckles                  | Type, Size (cm), Colour                                             |
| Eyelet                   | Size, Colour, Part, Two-Way                                         |

#### Pricing & Stock

* **Unit Price** — Price per unit in RS
* **Unit** — How it's measured (usually "units")
* **Current Stock** — How many you have
* **Min Stock Level** — When to flag as low stock

#### Photos

Upload product photos. Click the camera icon or drag images into the photo area.

## Editing an Existing Item

1. Click on an item card to open its detail page
2. Click the **Edit** button (pencil icon)
3. The same form opens with all fields pre-filled
4. Make your changes and save

  The **Sortly SID** and **Part #** fields are read-only and cannot be edited. These are system-assigned codes.
